Biodegradable and Durable Core-Shell Nanofibers for Textiles
Balitmore, Maryland
Dipole Materials are creating the next generation of sustainable, microfiber-free textiles through their innovative electrospinning development process. Their method uses high voltage forces to extract nanofibers from a polymer solution that creates a mat of biodegradable material, which can subsequently be spun and woven into garments. Core-shell electrospinning technology is used to provide polycaprolactone, a polymer that is durable and biodegradable but melts at 60 degrees centigrade, with a cellulose acetate external shell, creating a material that is highly durable, able to withstand high-temperature wash cycles and will eventually degrade into harmless byproducts in soil or water.
