Techstyler + Conservation X Labs: Microfiber Innovation Series

Fireside chat: Inside the startup creating 'world's first' non-toxic biodegradable tights

Startup co-founders Sophie Billi-Hardwick and Marie Bouhier have developed the "world’s first" biodegradable tights with the novel application of chemically altered nylon and elastane yarns already existing on the market. Billi London tights break down into non-toxic biogas and biomass within 5 years in well-controlled landfills (in anaerobic conditions).

Techstyler editor Brooke Roberts-Islam digs into the opportunity for using non-micro plastic shedding yarns that already exist on the market, how these are being applied innovatively by the Billi London founders and the challenges they faced during 2 years of R&D to develop and launch their product to market. Next on their target list is biodegradable socks, tackling a universal product currently contaminating our landfills with toxic elastane and polyester micro plastics. Expect insights on material development, R&D and materials testing, startup life and partnering with mills and manufacturers to get a new product to market.
